BATMAN SPAWN WAR DEVIL Japanese translation. This book is a Japanese translation (first edition) of a work originally published in the United States in 1994. Publication in Japan was Nov. BATMAN #1 (SECRET ORIGIN) 1997. It contains "BATMAN-SPAWN WAR DEVIL" as the main story and "BATMAN #1 (1997)" (SECRET ORIGIN) as an appendix.
This is the first of two competing films between Batman and Spawn that have been translated into Japanese, and the first one was produced by DC. In contrast to the other, "Spawn/Batman, " the two initially confront each other over a misunderstanding, but soon recognize each other and team up, with Batman showing flashes of science and deduction and Spawn showing flashes of magic-related expertise.
The story is about a rational tag team who have a kind of mutual respect for each other, taking on a horror mystery based on the real-life mysterious case of the Roanoke Colony mass disappearance. It's the exact opposite of "Spawn/Batman, " yet that one and this one seem to be exactly what you'd expect, perhaps because it's a very DC-esque tale. The story is a model for when Batman teams up with an occult character, similar to the recent animated "Justice League: Dark" and so on. I think it's a coincidence that they turned out to be polar opposites, but the result is great because it covers all the needs. Perhaps because it is an appendix to the DC side of the work, the second half of the book is packed with a lot of Batman-related palimpsests and material. Origins, interviews with Bruce Wayne and Alfred, articles on Gotham, introduction of the Bat-family, etc. It was a great amount of information for 1998, when the Internet was still underdeveloped and there were few Japanese translations of Batman. I think it was a great amount of information at that time. Also, although these articles seem to have been translated, the Japanese editorial department added their own articles introducing goods, etc. So you can get an idea of what was going on at the time. With short stories about the famous duo that are not too poisonous, and ample materials, this is a book that Batman fans can easily enjoy.
