Joichi Hoshi Snowball & Red Bird - 1964 Offered here is an original modern block print by well known Japanese artist Joichi Hoshi, circa 1964. Print measures approximately 17 3/4 x 18 inches (sight) and the framed size is 26 x 25 inches. Print is signed in pencil at lower right.

It is titled in Japanese at lower left and marked A. I'm not sure if the artist actually completed a full edition of this work as I have seen just one other example which was also an artist proof. A few artist proofs are typically made prior to executing a numbered edition. Print appears to be in very good condition, in original framing.

This print is quite rare and seldom comes to market. He has exhibited at the Sao Paulo and Tokyo Print Biennials. Strongly attracted to elements of nature, the artist's earlier prints depict stars and constellations, but by the 1970's, he focused on the subject of trees - the image for which he is best known.
