Manga Woodblock Tradition All 15 Book Set. "Hokusai Manga" is one of Hokusai's representative prints. The contents vary from the life and work of people of the time, martial arts, ghosts and goblins, landscapes, flowers and plants, animals, and more. The term "manga" differs from the modern meaning of the word, which refers to an at random compilation of all kinds of illustrations. It consists of fifteen volumes and is a compilation of a vast number of sketches amounting to more than 3,900 drawings.
The first volume was published in 1814, and sequels were made even after Hokusai's death. The fifteenth volume, published in 1878 (Meiji 11), was the final volume. At the time, it is said that Hokusai's works attracted European painters from far across the sea and had a great influence on impressionist artists.
