Studied Western-style painting under Kotaro Nagahara and was active in the Pacific Painting Society and Hakuba-kai. Later switched to Japanese-style painting and was selected for the first Imperial Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition. He excelled in the observation and depiction of fish ecology. He was in charge of the original drawings for his masterpiece "Dai Nihon ichibutsu gashu" (The Great Collection of Fish Art in Japan), and produced vividly colored woodblock prints that are known as "original color woodblock prints hand-printed 200 times". This is the only produced in private hands.

It is believed to be a work from around the Meiji - Taisho - Showa periods. It is a genuine print.

The print has some light staining in the upper margin, but is otherwise generally good for its age. Other than that, it is generally in good condition for its age (there is a peel-off mark on the top of the reverse side). There may be some other age spots, wrinkles, and age changes if you look at the details.
