From a local estate, we offer a rare Japanese woodblock triptych depicting women sewing at a kimono factory. The artist is Chikanobu Yoshu, a leading woodblock print artist of the Meiji Period. The grouping of three prints were created in 1885 as a wave of national nostalgia for a Japan past prompted designs exploring traditional Japanese culture, values, and heroes. The three prints measure 36 x 70 cm (approx 14 x 27 1/2 inches) and are tacked to a backing sheet. Framed together these will create a colorful depiction of Japanese life never to be seen again.
