Rare Katsushika Hokusai Japanese Woodblock from Toshisen ehon 1833, Chinese Tang






Up for sale is a beautiful 1833 1st edition illustration woodblock by Katsushika Hokusai published in Toshisen ehon, a book of Chinese Tang poetry. This was one of 13 double page illustrations from one of the two most desirable sets from the total of six due to Hokusai being the illustrator. This woodblock measures a total of 8 x 11 inches while its early 20th century red and gold wood frame measures 11.75 x 14.25 inches. The print shows damage including discoloration and toning as well as the matting and frame showing some wear.
